Joymoti Assamese Movie


Joymoti or Joimoti (Assameseজয়মতী), released on 10 March 1935, was the first Assamese film made. Based on Lakshminath Bezbaroa's play about the 17th-century Ahom princess Soti Joymoti, the film was produced and directed by the noted Assamese poet, author, and film-maker Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, and starred Aideu Handiqueand acclaimed stage actor and playwright Phani Sarma. The film, shot between 1933 and 1935,[1] was released by Chitralekha Movietone in 1935 and marked the beginning of Assamese cinema.
Joymoti was screened at the 50th International Conference of the Society For Cinema and Media Studies (SCMC) of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in March 2011.[2]

Although never a commercial success, Joymoti was noted for its political views and the use of a female protagonist, something almost unheard of in Indian cinema of the time.

The film was directed by Rajni Basumatary and produced by Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation Limited in association with Manna Films. The film was initially released on 7 February 2014 in the state of Assam and later on 7 March 2014 in selected theaters across rest of Indiavia PVR Director's Rare.

Bir Chilarai Assamese Movie | Film


Bir Chilarai, the much awaited movie of the year directed by Samarendra Narayan Dev and produced by Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation Limited (ASFFDCL) under the banner of Darrang House Production had its premier today at Anuradha Cinema Complex, Guwahati. Samarendra Narayan Dev previously had directed Aranya (1971), Putala Ghar (1976), Sonor Horin (1979), Kazirangar Kahini (1982), and Raja (1982).

Rodor Chithi Assamese Movie | Film


Alternative Cinematic,' a production house based on Guwahati, is going to produce a new Assamese feature film titled "Rodor Chithi" (ৰ'দৰ চিঠি). After the first film "Aachene Kunuba Hiyat," Baharul Islam will direct this film. The story of the film is based on the the director's play "Ximar Xipare." Zubeen Garg and Angaraag Mahanta will act together in the film and music will be directed by Zubeen Garg. Mahurat of the film was held on 7th April at Seagull Studio Theatre, Zoo Road, Guwahati. Shooting will start from 8th April at Cherrapunji, Meghalaya.

Mane Mor Kaina Bisare Assamese Movie | Film


Sadananda Gogoi directed "Mone Mur Koina Bisare" got released this Friday (15th March) all over Assam in 23 screens. This film features Neil Das, Bhargab Das, Nishita Goswami and Aimee Barua in the lead roles. The premier show of the film was held on 10th March at Gold Cinema, Narengi. Much awaited action packed film "Ranangan" got a release date. It is now going to release on 19th April 2013. In the mean time it also got censored as "U" certificate. The censor board asked to use "baby" instead of "sexy" in the Prastuti Parasr starrer item number "I am sexy, very crazy."

Durjan Assamese Movie | Film


New Assamese Movie "Durjan" is now in editing table after completing its shooting. The film features a salsa dance which is for the first time in Assamese Movie.
